Cely Pedescleaux is Going to France

June 13th, 2008

Our New Orleans Association Quilter Emeritus, Cely Pedescleaux is in the Cultural Exchange Show sponsored by the French Patchwork Society and the U.S. Embassy in France.  It is traveling through France and will end in Paris in May 2009.  There are 20 quilts in the show and 9 are Cely’s and 2 are Soco Ocampo ( in her quilt group).  The Patchwork Society is paying her expenses for the Paris closing to participate on a quilting pana.  She is so excited. Go to the web site http:/www.quiltmania.com/en/calendrier.php for more information.

Good Going Cely!  We are all very proud of you.

Calling All Churches In The New Orleans Association

June 7th, 2008

While in Dallas at the South Central Conference Annual Meeting, many things were talked about as to how we as churches can better communicate with the tools that we have.  Right now most of the NOA churches have newsletters that go out to their congregations on a regular basis.  We also have a web site that all or parts of these newsletters could be put on.  So, starting on Monday June 9th, I will start putting these newsletters on the web site.  I am currently receiving letters from Good Shephard, Salem and Teche.  I will also send this posting via snail mail to all the NOA churches.  What I am asking is, that in order to get all the churches in the NOA represented, please send me a copy of your newsletter.  Copies can be sent to me at:  Andrew Gancarcik c/o Little Farms UCC, 135 Sauve Road, River Ridge, La. 70123.  If there are items that you put in your Sunday bulletins, send that to me.  We have a tool that can be used to help us communicate.  Hope to be receiving your information soon.

Moving Into The Electronic Age

May 30th, 2008

Everywhere we look today we see something that is new and usually electronic.  Even the UCC Insurance Board has decided to save trees and put all their policy information on a CD Disk to be read on the computer.  Many of us have computers and embrace what they are able to do for us.  Many of us do not have computers or should I say “600.00 paperweights”.  This is what happens to a tool when no one knows what to do with it.  Now, I am not saying that we here in the New Orleans Association do not use our computers the way they are meant.  What I am saying is this.  I will build a user friendly web-site for any of the NOA churches.  The only charge would be for software, internet connections, domain name registration, and a web host.  I will do this and only ask that you make a donation to the Disaster Recovery Ministry here in New Orleans.  Once the sites are up and running, we can consider better communications with all church councils, pastors and members.

If you are interested, contact me at 504-330-8763 or my e-mail southbubs55@yahoo.com.  It’s time we reach out to our congregations in the latest form of communications.  Think about it? What would Jesus have done with such a tool?
