A Sacred Trust: Boundary Training deals with issues for Clergy, Spiritual Teachers and lay people.  This training includes increasing awareness of the need for healthy boundaries in the clergy-congregant or teacher student relationship; illustrating the impact of appropriate boundaries in promoting effective ministry, and providing clergy, teachers and laypeople with guidelines for developing appropriate boundaries and self-care strategies. The New Orleans Association Church and Ministry Committee has made the completion of a Boundary Training Session mandatory for an authorized minister to maintain their ministerial standing within the New Orleans Association.  The date to have Boundary Training completed has been extended from one year to two years from the date of the first Boundary Training held in the Conference. This means by October 1, 2012 all persons with standing will need to have completed Boundary Training and to have the documentation of completion to the Committee.

This Boundary Training session is being held in conjunction with our New Orleans Spring Association Meeting at Little Farms United Church of Christ on April 30, 2011.  Registration, coffee, etc will begin at 9:00 AM,  with worship starting at 9:30 AM.  Lunch, coffee etc will be provided.  There is a $15 assessment for the take home manual that you will use during the training.  Please share this information with the members of your congregation.  There is wisdom in having enough representatives from your church in attendance so that those not attending the Boundary Training can participate in the Spring Meeting of our New Orleans Association.  If you have any questions, please email me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. The expenses for having the Boundary Training seminar are being paid for by the New Orleans Church and Ministry Committee.

Boundary Training was developed by the Faith Trust Institute, working with diverse racial and faith communities providing training and educational materials to help reduce incidents of sexual abuse by clergy and to train clergy on boundary issues.  The New Orleans Association Church and Ministry Committee has made the completion of a Boundary Training Session mandatory for an authorized minister to maintain their ministerial standing within the New Orleans Association and this Boundary Training must be completed within one year.

Retired clergy are also required to take Boundary Training if they are involved in any pulpit supply or any kind of ministry.   We are hoping that clergy will see this less of a “requirement” and more of a way to enhance and help their ministry.  The New Orleans Association of Church and Ministry is requesting that a response be received ASAP from every minister or clergy receiving this letter.

Peace be with you,
